Mexican coffees have always held a warm place in our hearts. This Strictly High Grown (SHG) coffee from the Chiapas region comes from a woman-owned collective called Mayan Harvest. This Chiapas coffee has a personality all its own - distinctive, lively, and literally dances on the tongue.
Mayan Harvest works with local coffee producers to improve harvesting and processing methods, so producers get more competitive prices at market. They also provided medical and dental assistance to producers who otherwise would not have access to these necessities. Founded by Rosalba Cifuentes Tovia to work with coffee producers in the Bella Vista municipality, her organization has grown from a few farms to 70 producers, 50 of whom are women. Many of these producers work off small plots of land averaging about two hectares (about five acres), so these increased premiums make a significant difference in the producers’ livelihoods.
