Ethiopia Tariku Kare Bombe Outgrowers
Roast Level: Light-Medium Roast
Tasting Notes: Raspberry, Strawberry, Rich Chocolate
- Description
This full-bodied Ethiopian natural comes from 593 smallholder farms delivering red cherry from four villages in the Nensebo district. The fruit notes are up front on the first sip, then they transform into a smooth, sweet finish. We taste raspberry, strawberry, and rich chocolate with a hint of warming spices.
Coffee here grows at extraordinarily high elevations up to 2200 MASL (7,200 ft above sea level) and contains a mix of local coffee varieties as well as wild varietals originating from neighboring forests. This convergence of local and wild coffees, grown at very high altitudes, creates unique flavor profiles for this newer coffee producing region.
Tariku Kare was born in Bombe and began working coffee at age 15, starting as a cherry sorter. He worked his way up to managing a washing station, and then eventually opening washing stations of his own. Tariku pays a premium over local prices for ripe red cherry and work hard to incentivize farmers to deliver high quality cherry to his washing stations each year.
