- Description
We’ve long been fans of Mexican specialty coffee, and you will be too after sipping this fine organic-certified lot from the San Isidro Zoquiapam community in Northern Oaxaca (wah-HAH-kah).
As soon as you open the bag, the aroma seduces you. The lighter roast brings out this coffee’s natural flavors, beautifully balanced with apple notes, almond, warming spices and just a hint of cacao. The medium body gives a mouthfeel that’s smooth and sweet, with a lovely caramel finish.
Mexico is the world’s 7th largest coffee producer and the largest exporter of organic coffees. 70% of Mexico’s coffee comes from larger estates centered around Veracruz. The remaining 30% comes from 2 million smallholder farms, with most coming from the Southern states of Chiapas and Oaxaca, where most of Mexico’s indigenous population resides.
San Isidro Zoquiapam is a small coffee-producing community in the La Cañada region of Northern Oaxaca, comprised of just 90 families of the Mazatec ethnic group. They grow coffee at some of the highest elevations in Mexico, resulting in more developed and complex flavors. They have been working over the last ten years to improve the harvesting, sorting, and processing of their best coffees to specialty coffee standards, showcasing the very best this region has to offer.
