Panama Pacamara 4 oz Sampler

Tasting notes: Floral, Tropical Fruit, Smooth Body

Process:   Natural
Varietals:  Pacamara (cross between Pacas and Maragogipe varietals)
Elevation: 1550 MASL
Farmer: Sonia Amoruso

This coffee came to us by happy accident. We were in the market for a new sample roaster, and one of our importers offered to demonstrate theirs. They randomly selected this Panama Pacamara for our test roast, and when we tasted it the next day, it remained imprinted on our tongues for the rest of the week. The price per pound is on the high side, but affordable enough for coffee fans who want a special treat. We think you're worth it.

Finca Lerida is a farm with a rich and unique history. Its founder, Tollef B. Monniche, came to Panama from Norway in 1907 to work as an engineer on the Panama Canal. Tollef retired in 1924, and bought a small farm in Boquete, Panama with his wife - the property was called "Lerida" after the city in Spain. He built a house on the property and planting coffee trees as well as fruits and vegetables. He built a dam and he also developed and patented a device called the "Sifon" to separate ripe cherries from unripe ones. This device is still in use today, not only at Finca Lerida, but also on coffee farms worldwide.

Today, Finca Lerida is run by the Chiari family, who coordinate coffee growing with surrounding rainforest preservation. It also houses an eco-tourism hotel, where patrons can take tours of the farmland and enjoy the ambiance of the rainforest. The farm sits at an altitude of 5,250-6,020 feet above sea level. The coffee is farmed by Sonia Amoruso, who has garnered a well-deserved reputation for standout coffees even in the rarified world of Panama coffee auctions.
